Top-Level Talking

Timber Thebes, a West Perry senior and the FFA Chapter Chaplin, brought home the gold at the Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry area level, Extemporaneous Speaking Competition. The Extemporaneous Speaking Competition consists of FFA members selecting a random topic within the agricultural or FFA field of study. Competitors have 30 mins to research and prepare a 4-6 minute speech, followed by a 5 minute question session. The topic selected for Timber was “Migrant workers and their effect on the agriculture industry”. The next step for Timber is the South Central Regional Speaking event, on Wednesday April 24, 2019.

As a speaker, Timber believes she is well experienced, but her skills are still improving and she is striving for greatness. Throughout the competition, Timber was confident in herself, yet excited to see her competitors from other FFA chapters who she has grown close to over the last 4 years.

Though an extensive and nerve racking process, Timber is applying for a Pennsylvania FFA State Officer title after graduation. Then, she plans to enter into the military, followed by receiving a higher level of education. Congratulations, Timber for achieving First in the Extemporaneous Speaking Competition.
